As many of you know, on Dec 19th our electoral college will be voting for the next president of the United States. The electoral process, though often contentious, does require the president-elect to be approved by the electoral college. This process was intentionally designed as a safeguard to protect against unfit presidents from being elected.
Today I plead with you, republicans, democrats, independents, cabin dwellers, hill top dwellers alike, to stand and support the process that our forefathers have designed, and to stand in support of this process. An elector is responsible to the people they represent, and also their conscience. This is a difficult place to be, and I ask that we all stand up for the representatives that have this difficult decision to make.
Only 37 republican representatives would have to defect for Trump to lose the support of the electoral college.
Does this mean that Hillary would win instead? No.
Does this mean Trump would be withdrawn from the running? Not necessarily. If the electoral college cannot determine a winner then the Twelfth Amendment mandates that the House decides the president, while the Senate chooses the vice president.
Today, Saturday the 17th at 12:00-3:00pm you can show your support for the democratic process that our forefathers designed. The event will be located at the corner of University and Geist. It is intended as a peaceful event, it is non-partisan and will have a positive message. People with Hillary or Trump signs will be respectfully asked to take down their signs. Thank you for your time.
