Show up with a candle, and with good intentions - this vigil is about a quiet support of the Electors voting with their consciences and to let them know that we care - to offset the threats they are getting for thinking of voting Country over Party. We want photos of this event, and to get it into the press - these are happening around the country for this entire week.
I recently watched a video of Bob Willis, Alexander Hamilton's great-great-great-great-great grandson, in which he called on ordinary Americans to peacefully and publicly support the Electoral College in choosing a candidate who meets the constitutional standards for the presidency. [Watch the video or read the full text below.]
THIS SILENT, RESPECTFUL CANDLELIGHT VIGIL IS NOT A PROTEST OR RALLY. We will come together in community as Bob Willis asks for - it's not about policy differences, it's about wanting the Electors to know we are with them when they choose an alternative to Donald Trump, someone who is fit for the highest office in this country. We are not supporting any one particular person in this vigil. The electors have that choice and know their options.
It is our chance to join a national movement demonstrating our recognition of the danger an unfit president poses for our democracy and the safety of its citizens, and the world.

"Right now the members of the Electoral College are under a great deal of pressure. And it's going to take great courage for them to do their constitutional duty and remove Donald Trump in favor of a candidate who meets the constitutional standards for the presidency.
"This is their job, and it has been since my ancestor wrote the Federalist Papers six generations ago.
"We want to support the Electors to do the right thing, so I'm asking all Americans to show their support by organizing silent and respectful candlelight vigils at county courthouses, city hall's and state houses across the country, every sundown from now until the Electoral College votes on December 19th.
"Please wear purple as a sign of unity and by all means refrain from protest language. This is not about political parties or ideology. We do not want to answer Trump's rhetoric with more of the same.
"This is our chance to demonstrate that we recognize the danger an unfit president poses for our democracy and for the safety of the world. And we need the electors to remember their solemn duty to protect our republic."
